Vision

Quality teaching and effective learning in Early Childhood and Foundation Phase (Grade R – Grade 3) classrooms in South Africa and beyond.

Mission

To promote a caring, transformative approach to teaching, focusing on the development of a core conceptual language and the related thinking repertoires and dispositions required for formal learning in children.

Background

The educational crisis in South Africa necessitates a particular response to young children who are about to start or have just started school. Educators require a systemic, developmentally orientated intervention approach to address the cumulative educational and environmental deprivation experienced by many learners during their early childhood years.

Goals

  1. To provide a range of specialized educational services:-
    1. training
    2. on-site mentoring/coaching
    3. monitoring and evaluation
    4. research
  2. To partner with the business sector, government and non-governmental organizations in projects that optimize the learning propensity of young children
  3. To transfer knowledge, skills and dispositions to project partners in order to ensure continuity of projects
  4. To motivate and enable teachers to extend their knowledge and skills within a supportive, collaborative community
  5. To transform mindsets and increase understanding of young children and those approaches needed to mediate their development, particularly when these children come from disadvantaged backgrounds

The best way to improve the workforce in the 21st century is to invest in early childhood education, to ensure that even the most disadvantaged children have the opportunity to succeed alongside their more advantaged peers.
