SEDC Northern Cape: Training

Thursday, October 29, 2020 - 15:00
Doulgas SEDC

Online/Live ZOOM Training

SEDC aims to develop a love for Science and Maths by teaching for an increased conceptual rather than procedural understanding and thus developing better problem-solving skills.

To rise above poverty children will need to develop the soft-skills of independence; resilience/grit; self and other respect, a growth mindset and whole-hearted participation in all activities and opportunities offered.

Basic Concepts Unlimited is proud to be associated with SEDC. We look forward to helping them to develop better thinking, learning and habits of mind in younger children and as well as their teachers.

  • Number of teachers to be trained: 13

  • Number of SEDC facilitators/managers to be trained: 3

  • Dates of training: 14+15+22 + 29 September 2020 + 6 + 13 + 20 + 27 October 2020  (16 hours of training)

  • Format of training: ZOOM Online Session

We hope to continue our relationship with SEDC at the end of the course and to develop another cohort of certified mediators and field workers in the Northern Cape.

The sessions were clear, informative, exciting, well presented, practical, logical and relevant to the context of teaching young learners.

Metro Central, October 2013

I love the programme. I was not aware of how to introduce a concept … . If I could reverse my years in teaching, I bet I would have produced mathematicians, scientists and doctors.

Metro Central Teacher Comment (July, 2013)

Developed new method/techniques on how to use myself better in sessions and get better potential from children.’ (KIDZPOSITIVE, Occupational Therapist, 2011)

Teacher Feedback

I learned a new language to use with my learners.

Metro Central: Training, October 2014

I realize that children need to know their basic concepts so that they can develop understanding of the content of the curriculum.

Metro South Education District: Teacher Training, May 2014

The emphasis on language throughout the programme helps to develop learners' understanding of concepts and expand their vocabulary. The BCP stops learners from guessing, it gives them more structure and develops their cognitive functioning.
