Results of baseline assessment of Grade R learners (November 2013)

A screening test was administered to determine the preparedness of Grade R learners for school learning.

18 Grade R learners were assessed. The majority of learners tested had received 1.5 years of  BCP intervention.

The learners were on average found to be functioning marginally below average (17.83 where 18 is an average score) with another 4 weeks left of the school year. The learners were performing better than Grade 1s tested in a neighbourhood school during the 2nd term in 2012.

The learners were performing above average (75%) on all subtests with the exception of two conceptual domains: Shape (54%) and Letter (45%).
