Ikwezi: Test of Basic Concepts Knowledge Results (2010-2012)

The Test of Basic Concepts Knowledge has been administered annually to Grade 1 learners since the start of the project. In 2010 baseline data was gathered from learners at all project schools. In 2011 and 2012 data was gathered from learners who had received intervention in Grade R. The analysis of the data by a team of external evaluators concluded that:-

'Empirical evidence was also offered to show how, as teachers’ conceptual and pedagogic proficiency improved, the number of learners not requiring any intervention in Grade 1 increased every year. The example presented to the evaluators showed that, in 2010, out of a class of 40, only 6 did not need BCP intervention. By 2012, however, 20 out of 35 learners that were tested from this teacher’s Grade R class did not need further BCP intervention in Grade 1.'
