Trust and Hope: The Story of the Hantam Community Education Trust, by Anne Hill

The Basic Concepts Foundation is so delighted to have been included in this wonderful book written by the late Anne Hill.

The book was published in 2016 by Fire and Lion Publisers.

The book outlines the remarkable story that led to the development of the Hantam Community Education Trust (HCET), its vision and achievements over the past 35 years.

Les Olser certainly should be singled out for her unbridled passion, energy and leadership since the inception of the Trust.

Two chapters of the book describe our impactful work at the Hantam Community Education Trust (HCET) as well as an additional project also initiated by the HCET in small Karoo towns of Colesberg and Nouport.

The first chapter titled, 'Basic Concepts' (pg 55), provides a brief description of our main work and the associated impacts.

The second chapter, 'Basic Concepts Programme: Colesberg and Nourpoort' (pg. 80-82), describes our impactful work in these communities.

A quote from the book, pg 65:

"The three-year-olds now arrive at preschool with the basic concepts, that enabled the teacher, Lettie, to do much more with them. The HCET staff noted that the children who had not had the basic concepts input during the preschool years struggled later in formal school."
