Durbanville Schools Foundation: Training Sessions for Shape (March 2024)

Training & Mentoring Sessions for Shape

The second set of training sessions was sucessfully run for this new cohort of Foundation Phase teachers in Metro North.

The training sessions were immediately followed up by class visits at each of the project schools.

 

Details of the second set of training sessions:-

Date: 05th + 06th March 2024

Time: 14:00- 16:00

Venue: Alpha Primary School, Durbanville

 

Findings from the second set of training sessions:-

Attendance at session 2a: 96% (23 out of 24)

Attendance at session 2b: 88% (21 out of 24)

 

94% of teachers found the content of the training very beneficial, while one teacher rated the content as average.

 The interest in the BCP remains very high amongst 94% of the teachers, while one teacher rated her interst as average.

 The following verbatim comments from the project teachers also seemed to support the above findings:-

  • Thank you for your time and effort you put in in order to help us as educators so that we can understand and help our learners.
  • The basic concepts helps alot with how to implement and teach it in a classroom.
  • Content was explained clearly in a way that everyone can understand and apply it in our classes.
  • Thank you for all your energy and believing in our children when sometimes we just give up.
  • It’ is an eye opener for me. Really enjoyed it
  • It is amazing how much learning can take place from one shape, etc.

 

 Findings from mentoring visits: -

  • Demonstration lessons were run by teachers at all schools while being observed by their colleagues;
  • Teachers adeptly implemented sessions with their initial knowledge of Mediation and the Concept Teaching Model.
  • Teachers exhibited a grasp of the teaching process, suggesting prior programme usage.
  • There's room for improvement in integrating the BCP more seamlessly into teachers' daily schedules.
